BUILT FROM THE GROUND UP
The journey to Chartered Architectural Technologist
I began on-site. As a labourer, then a qualified bricklayer, then a foreman coordinating trades and sequencing work across live construction projects. Before I ever drew a line professionally, I understood how buildings actually go together — the decisions that get made in the ground, the tolerances that matter, the things that look fine on a drawing and cause real problems the moment a contractor reads them.
I went on to run my own construction company. That gave me a different kind of understanding again — budgets, programme, the commercial reality of delivering a project. What it costs when things are not thought through early.
What it saves when they are.
Then I studied landscape and garden design, and that changed how I see a site entirely. A home is not just a building — it is something that sits in the ground, catches light at certain times of year, frames particular views, and shapes the way people move through a space before they even reach the front door.
That outside-in way of thinking is not
something most designers come to naturally.
For me, it was a qualification, a practice, and a way of seeing that I now bring to every project.
From there, a degree in Architectural Technology and Chartered membership of CIAT. I am not an architect in the traditional sense — and that distinction is worth being clear about. My training and professional grounding are rooted in the technical and constructional side of buildings. Which is precisely why the homes I design are buildable from day one, not retrofitted to reality after the fact.

Because I have worked at every level of the industry, I understand design and construction as a single discipline rather than two separate conversations. And because of my background in landscape and garden design, I bring a spatial and naturalistic way of thinking that shapes how a home feels to approach, to move through, and to live in over time.

My approach evolves traditional architecture rather than replicating it. Natural stone, deep-set openings, balanced massing, or paired with contemporary internal layouts, clean detailing and high-performance building fabric.
